Fees and insurance

In the Netherlands the government sets dental fees every year, through the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa). Every dentist in the Netherlands therefore charges the same maximum fee for the same treatment. So do we.

Fixed codes and fees

Every procedure has a national code with a maximum fee. On your invoice you see per code what was done. The current list is on the NZa website and is available for inspection in the practice.

Estimate in advance

If a treatment costs € 250 or more, you receive an estimate in advance. For lower amounts you get one on request. Only then do you decide.

Material and technical costs

For crowns, bridges, implants and dentures, costs for material and dental technology are added to the treatment fee. These are listed separately on your estimate and invoice.

What does your health insurance cover?

That depends on your age and your policy. Below are the main rules for Dutch health insurance. Check your own policy conditions for the details. With our estimate you can ask your insurer what you will get back.

SituationMain rule
Children and young people up to 18The basic health insurance (basisverzekering) covers most dental care. Crowns, bridges and orthodontics are usually not included.
AdultsRegular dental care falls under supplementary dental insurance (aanvullende tandartsverzekering). Without it, you pay yourself.
Full dentureThe basic health insurance covers most of it. You pay a statutory personal contribution and your excess (eigen risico) applies.
Implant-retained dentureFor a toothless jaw the basic health insurance covers this under certain conditions. We apply for the authorisation.
Other implantsDepending on your supplementary insurance, otherwise at your own expense. You always receive an estimate beforehand.
